gel coat faded AGAIN

So when I completely rebuilt my boat we wet sanded and buffed the whole thing and it looked awesome. after about a month it went right back to crap again. I want to bring it back to shine again but don't want to waist my time if its just gonna turn again. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again ?

A good wax like boat candy will keep the UV off. Also a good boat cover.

Will I need to color sand again or just get out the buffing wheel and go to town ? My buddy said to buff it then lay down some carnauba wax and cover it when not in use

Try this get so carnauba wax with sealer. It works great. I had a boat racer tell me that boats as they get older they dry out like your skin. When they dry out they start to shrink the carnauba wax with sealer stops the boat from drying out and it brings a really nice shine. U still have to wax it every couple of months. I try to wax mine every time I take it out.

skip the carnubas and go with a synthetic wax as boating environments are fairly harsh. then once in a while go over it with a spray quick detailer to keep the protection up. think of it like sunscreen, it dries up and gets absorbed into the skin or loses its UV blocking abilities and you have to reapply. same thing.

do whatever it takes and polish it up. if that means starting with a compound, then polish, etc then thats what u have to do. but once u achieve a shine you need to protect it. thats where the WAX comes in. it leaves a layer on top of protection.

everything *I* have learned was taught during a meguiars class down in irvine at their HQ by Mike Phillips, who now runs the Auto Geek line of polishing and care products... maybe a SCJB meet with boats to show you how to polish and care for paint/gelcoat can be done some day?

So I got some synthetic wax and some rubbing compound and started buffing. The rubbing compound sucked and didn't really work. Tried the synthetic wax and it did a pretty good job bringing out the shine. Still need to do the back and a little more on the front but its coming along. Just wanted to say thanks for knowledge guys.
