Alright Ive decided to go all out on the boat this summer. I want to sand it down and paint it white. Im a finish carpenter so i know all about sandin wood, no clue where to start on the boat. Ive got sanders and a spray gun so pretty sure i can do it myself. Help me out guys i wanna get this thing cherry by next weekend. I wanna do a white or an off white with some kind of blue accents to try and match the interior a bit. Heres a current picture

dont do it! but if you must break out the da it will be your best friend! you can start with 220 on all of the peeling areas feathering them out. when thats done 320 the whole boat to the gell coat. dont dig into it to much. then 600 wet or dry. do it wet get yourself a bucket. with water and a towel to keep it wet. good luck!

x2 don't do it .try color sand and buffing you would be amazed what that will do for gelcoat

enjoy the boat this summer. spend all winter stripping EVERYHITNG off of it, sanding it down, painting it, flipping it upside down, sanding some more, painting, flipping it back over, reinstalling everything, etc. you have a LOT of hours of hard hard labor ahead of you for that project.

We painted a 21' Charger with myself, dad & brother and its a lot of work and time. I agree on the wet sand and buffing.

there is no way to get it done in a week it is alot of work I did my boat took all winter first time painting next winter i get to fix all the mistakes plus you have to let the paint set for at least a week before you color sand and buff it

x3 x4, just wet sand it and buff that is what i did and i am super pleased with the out come.. i used 1200 then 1500 grit 3 m wet or dry paper then the meguires 3 step system. 1st step heavy compound with my 39 dollar harbor frieght polisher.. then step 2 and step 3 by hand and ta dow... super nice ..

Haha alright I will definitely take your advice gentlemen. I pressure washed all the flakes off so now it really is a custom paint job lol. I just pick up a head unit and speakers to keep me busy for a couple hours though
