I recently required my dads old jet boat, After we sold it it ran a season or two and got parked in a Phoenix back yard for around 10-15 years. Besides all the motor and upholstery work that needs to be done(general maintenance and detailing because I'm very meticulous about detailing)what can I do to the hull itself to get rid of the sun damage and bring the shine back? Thank you in advance.

I would start with a wetsand buff, does wonders on gel that is oxidized

Don't remember exactly, did mine 3 years ago and then had it done by gs marine afterward. Mine was very oxidized, took me 3 solid weekends to get it decent all by hand. If you can afford a pro to do it, do it. Mine had no shine all chalky and was a major pita. If it's not in that bad of shape 3m makes a few marine compounds available at west marine that work pretty good also.

Use a 2000 grit and make sure to have it on a block-not just your hand. Keep it very wet and try to sand in one direction, preferably front to back. Then you can high speed polish it (1500-1600 rpm's) with a wool pad and some cutting compound, then go to a yellow foam pad with a lighter cutting compound and finally a black foam pad with a polish. Once you do that, admire it for a minute and then hit it with some old school carnauba to protect it.

Wash it with a blue scotch brite pad and comet, from front to back don't go side to side. Just like wet sanding, then wash with dish soap real good and buff with fine compound. Or wet sand with 800 then buff with rough compound then fine. If it's not to bad the comet with the pad will be like 1200 and works good try a little spot see if it will be enough. Wet sanding right is a lot of work if your going do it get the little block with holes that you wrap the paper around so you don't get all the finger marks in it.

Wet sanding sucks. in the 80s when I was a kid my day would all ways make me wet sand cars in lacquer primer with 400. Then he would paint them and then I would hit it with 800 he would spray it again then color sand with 1200 buff and a million coats of harly wax 100% carnauba. When he would turn cars we washed them with comet but I think back the it was abrasive and did not have the bleach. That's why I like the blue pads now. I hate prepping cars to this day.

I agree with Steve here. I had done this on a previous boat I owned and it worked wonders. It's a lot of work but well worth it

I have done wet sanding on my boat and a few others. I start out with 1000 grit. Add some soap to the water and do one quick pass with that. Then I go to 2000 grit and my final pass is with 3000. And then buff it. It comes out great looking like a mirror.
