Paint $5800

I took the Kona to a very good actual "boat" painter here in Bakersfield yesterday and he wants 5000 for the trailer and two colors or 5800 for the trailer and three colors on the boat. There is some stress cracks to fill and he is glassing in a couple pieces of wood (for batteries and fuel tanks mounts). He said that since the boat is so old that he has to shoot it with some type of sealer b/c of pin holes. The guy is the sh*t, I have seen his work, but man that was about 2x what I thought it was going to cost.

What do you guys think, is that way too high?

Sounds a little high to me but what the fuk do I know. I have some friends that live in Bako and he ahs used the same guy for years painting his street rods and some other stuff. I think he goes by the name of Dinga

. He might be in Oildale. Luckie Stiff might know him. I will see if I can get his number for ya.

I think thats about going rate I was quoted 6000 for a pretty simple paint job

My first bid was 5 grand just to start on the boat, 1500 just to put graphics on paper. I got a guy now, i think, whos airbrushing a band of ghost naked chick parts all the way around for around $500.

If you can get a complete, good job, with trailer painted for $5800, then that's a GOOD deal. And if he's a smart painter, it can be just as strong as Gel.

If you want to save money, then your best bet is to do all body work, fix cracks, and primer and block sanding yourself and just pay someone to spray it

Yeah there is a good portion of body work (which they say is the most important part) and I am not getting into that sh*t. He said there would be close to a couple of grand in material, so he will make a few grand in labor with about 120 hours work. That isn't too bad for the quality that I have seen him produce.

who is the painter you took it to? There's a lot of talented people in this town. That price seems a little steep, but not too far out of whack.

From what I've gathered , your impressed with his work , which is a good thing . I dont know if you've seen many others but I would look around at some others just to cover your bases . If you end up coming around to this guy again and you can sleep at night paying that much , then it's all good . My .02

depending on artwork and such 5800 does not sound that bad, before i did forkedup i got estimates of 6k+ just for the body work (which was very minimal) and an all white paint job, no graphics. i ended up substantially more than that

I am by no means a voice of vast experiance but I will offer that I have well in excess of $2000 in materials in my project and was not using high priced material nor were my colors complicated. While $5800 is a lot of coin, the amount of work needed to make sure his customers are happy is considerable. If he does good work and can get it done in a reasonable timeframe, I would consider it fair. He's making some money but hell, he's got bills to pay just like the rest of us.

This is my buddys boat we did all the prep and shot the filler primer in my front lawn than did the final block sanding for the painter he paid 1200 with aircraft paint its about 4 years old now and still looks new it took a little more time but saved alot of coin in the end

Looks good for 1200. I am looking at the majority of the boat in white with orange and silver as design colors. He also said that he wanted to out a little black in to tie everything together. Oh and black on the trailer.
