Painting pump stupid ?
« on: July 14, 2010, 04:30:14 PM »
Okay so I decided to paint my pump (on boat) because it has overspray on it. I really don't want to blow a whole lot of money on it because I will eventually upgrade to split bowl with snoot etc. I want to paint it black because the diverter is powdercoated black. I plan to just mask it off sand it a little and rattle can it. Any suggestions on what grit sandpaper (or should I use scotchbrite?) and what kind of rattle can paint should I use? Epoxy, enamel, acrylic???
Thanks,
Sam

I'd still have to paint the pump too. Pump is covered with gray overspray from when boat got painted. I just want a somewhat even finish. Like I said, I will eventually put a split bowl and snoot in and have those powdercoated.

I used epoxy paint when I did mine. Call me up if you need help. I'm off the rest of the month, so I have nothing but time. I have a few before and after pics posted up here.

I been selling the hell out of the appliance paint since you guys turned me onto it. Don't remember who first said it/used it, but my boat customers rave about the results!

Thanks, I will probably take you up on that. I might do it next week on Wed or Thurs. If not, then definitely the week after.

Have any of you tried the Frog tape? I watched a demo on DIY network and it didn't let paint bleed through like regular masking tape. Not sure if I would need something that tough since I'm just using a rattle can.

Nice...has a bitching shine to it. Maybe a different color would've been a little better down the road. Black + Water = dull and nasty water spots hehehe. Just my .02.

Either way bitching finish.

I went with black because the diverter is black powder coated (bought it that way). I will eventually go to a split bowl and a droop so that's why I just rattle canned it. I will have the split bowl and droop powdercoated.

Now your going to have to paint the trailer the same way because of all the overspray that's on the back. ;D

Lights look like they got some too. :o

Got them covered, converting to LEDs before I hit the road. Got LED markers, just need the stop/turn lights.
