anyone have any pointers or techniques of how to pin strip? as far as angle of brush, amount of paint on brush, etc?

hire a professional.  thats an art not a skill. 

i would head over to a socal speed shop...they sell alot of brushes, and books on how too...kaotyk! remember german1 is an artist...he's got a better chance then any of us do! that would be where i would start!

Stripimg is deffinately an art. I used to do it in high school. Are you planning on just pulling straight lines or Dutch style striping? The hardest part of  pulling straight lines is thickness of the line, and that is controlled by the pressure and speed in which you pull the brush. for doing the Dutch style jobs is a whole nother ball game doing scrolls is a  pain in the ass ( at least for me) you have to spin the brush as you pull around the curve, tons of prcatice... Your best bet is to get an old car fender and maybe a 00 Mac striping brush (most common), some One Shot and get to  practicing, you should be able to pull a straight line pretty quickly.

The guy who pin stripped my boat said it took him about 15 years to get to the point hes at. he made it look damn easy too.

im not hte greatest but it depends on what u r doing there is a tool (sh$%%^$%T cant remember the name) i have it at
home beugler pinstriping kit thats it n u can do simple designs with practice and for staight accents lay a quarter inch masking tape down n u can ride the beugler right down the side of  it for clean straight lines as far as a brush i like mack swords size 0. with the brush u will need to dilute one shot paint just a bit i just put some paint on a news paper n dip from mineral spirits to paint n mix til i get what i want not too thin thoughand saturate the sword more than half way up get some of excess off on news paper use ur pinky as ur guide to keep brush hieght the same n pull those lines. i suggest practicing a whole lot. goood luck bra

I tried the Beugler at the LA car show about ten years ago and it worked great. Of course the carnival barker selling them was excellent and could teach a monkey in a minute. It will even do a reasonable taper.  But get too trick and you'll wish you hired someone.  The pros absolutely hate them as it does not represent the art form they love they think it is only for amateurs. Most can pick pick out a "roller" stripe and scoff.
