Sea going putty

Anyone have any idea were I could find some sea going putty in so cal, besides rex marine or Dana marine?

Or something comparable that can be used?

I used liquid steel a couple times .....drilled it out later and fixed it right but it worked...

And once I used Big Red chewing gum to fix a small hole about the size of a nickel in the bottom of the hull where it was leaking pretty good where I hit something in the water.....I was off Newport Beach about 2-3 miles out...something about the seawater made it harden and it worked great....

It's going to be used around the bottom of the transom housing were it rests up against the hull.

The hole in the transom was cut to big by advantage when it was built many years ago. They never used bolts to secure the bottom of the housing to the transom, they just sealed it up with silicone.

After years and years it doesn't stay water right anymore.

How big of gap?

About 1/8 iinch wide gap periodically the length of the housing.

What I really need is to probably build up with layers of fiberglass but don't have time for that at the moment.. Have a trip for this coming weekend.

If I silicone it by the beginning of the trip , by half way thru ill be running my bilge pump way to much for my liking.

I did find some marine tex putty and going to try that and see if that holds better than just the silicone alone. Then after the season have done fiberglass work done back there

when I bought my float last year, I noticed I had the same issues.... the filler ( epoxy ?) was cracking and missing in places around the intake .... I sanded and cleaned then used a product called liquid steel. it is a 2 part putty that you cut a piece off a roll that looks like a grey tootsie roll and knead it until its the same color. I worked it into the gaps and smoothed it off. one cured its VERY hard to sand so ya got to make is smooth. That was last July ..... I've been running nearly every weekend all this summer and it does not leak and none has fallen out. it may not be 'marine putty or the correct materials for the fix but it damn sure works
