A pint of Rustoleom (sp?), a brush, and call it a day. Rustoleom, only way to go, spray or brush.

Most of the Rustoleom's I've seen don't need primer, some don't even need rust removal. It all boils down to how good you want your boat trailer to look.

When you use  Brand X paint it leave a oil in the surface that can not be removed easily. I would recomend Duplicolor in the pint at Checkers or AutoZone. It is very easy to use and lasts a very long time. We can spray it at your place Steve. Just prep the surface well and I will  shot it for  you.

I'm about to bead blast my Berk "C" bowl...  It looks like $hit so I'm taking it down to bear aluminum, now I want to know, would I be better off to polish it or can I find Epoxy paint in a rattle can or what to paint it back white?  I'll work on the trailer and the rest of the boat this winter.  Heck, someone's got to keep the shops going while you guys just dream about what you want to do when you should be out having fun in the sun.   

Sand it with rough, maybe 150 grit. Then primer it, then sand it with 220, and spray some rattle can gloss white. The rougher the sandpaper the better it holds

Just thought I would throw in my .02 on the topic of painting aluminum.
Does not matter how well you sand alum., you need to etch it, or etch primer it to keep the paint sticking!
Alum. is an oily metal that leach out when sanded. (If you do not use etching primer, clean well with methylhydrate after sanding to remove residue)
Best to use an etching primer made for alum.  Plus, if you go from primer to top coat, the best bond is a chemical bond.
Don't wait for it to dry and sand then top coat, better to just give it enough time between coats to flash off and then top coat!  Gives you the best bond.
Primer and top coat must be compatable to do it this way, but strongest bond if you do.
Just make sure the alum. is all smooth before you start and the finish will be smooth too.
Every application is different so variances in product and procedure will apply.
Up here in the north coast area, for metal trailers you have to either Galvanize your trailer or use cromate primers to make them last (wich in your location would mean last forever  )
