I am doing away with the cheesy fiberglass gas tank mounts in my boat and was wondering where would i get the metal strap mounts that i see everyone using?

Do you already have tanks?

I have a set of mounts that were on the round aluminum tanks I removed from the Hondo.  I could get the diameter if that is what you are looking for.

Most of the early tanks (Russel etc) are 8" the Imcos (later) are 8.5" the 8.5 brackets will work on either Tom

I have some freshly powdercoated 8" tank mounts (4) that I will sell you.

$250 and I will "throw in" the aluminum bullet tanks, they are anodized clear and in pretty good shape..

Pics on here somewhere...

I had forgotten about this until I saw it yesterday.  I dug out the brackets I have and got a few pics.  They are original Hondo brackets that only used 1 bolt through the hull for each bracket.  I've been told that because of the single bolt they had some issues with breaking (?).  I didn't have any problem with breaking brackets but with braking filler necks off of the aluminum tanks

If they are something you can use let me know.

I have all 4.

How does $60.00 including shipping (UPS ground) sound?

bbfsouthwind, If you don't jump all over this, then well....You should.  ;D

They are similar to mine, but look a little tall, you need to measure from the floor to the gunwale to make sure they will clear the inside rail...

The only reason I bring it up is my tanks are from the Southwind and they were cozy, mine have shorter brackets....

Not trying to blow the sale for you crew, that is a killer deal....$15 each. :screwy:

No problem GT.  I wasn't trying to sell them, but if somebody from SCJB needs them I don't have a problem passing them on.

In the Southwind, they were thru bolted with flathead stainless bolts, I would recomend a dry fit and glass in some blocks for screwing them to the bottom of the boat....Sanatek   http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=385&   works pretty good if you use epoxy resin...

I have used it with some good result with thru hull area repairs on wood transoms, real easy to work with and chep, polyester resin will not adhere though...

BTW, as far as I am concerened, there is no such thing as a stupid question... ;)

i have used tap plastics for my past few gallons of epoxy, have had good luck with them and like their products. I will look into those blocks as soon as i get a set of brackets to test fit and see how much room i have to work with. I was thinking something along the lines of what you described. Bolt them to a block and glass the block to the hull. Thanks for the help and hopefully i will have a set of brackets in my hands soon so that i can measure it all out and get them in there  ;D
