Holes in bottom??!!
« on: December 09, 2010, 05:06:50 PM »
I have been looking for a jet boat for about 5 months now and have seen some good n some bad.  One thing I don't know is why some of the boats I  have seen have four holes drilled out of the bottom of hull.
These holes are the same location for two boats I have seen.
They are about 1 inch and are squared off the transom and gunnals about a foot.
Any body know about these holes?
I can only guess that they might have been totaled by insurance companies?
Any help ? :banghead:

probably two different people making the same mistake and using the wrong size screws to mount their seats.

If the holes are in the transom, they are simply drain holes. It would utilize a 1" rubber expander plug to plug em'.

Our aluminum boat had 6 drain holes because it was a tunnel bottom and water could get "trapped" all over the place...

If they were literally "in the bottom", I would be wondering what those were as well.... :screwy:

Yeah they are " in the bottom"   One foot and four feet foreward of transom and one foot in along side of boat
I will try n send a picture of it.
Text me if any one wants to see the drawing of the holes.

Don't think they are from gas tanks.
Location would be wrong n why have holes in the bottom?
Theses holes are filled in with silicone.

The brackets for some Alum gas tanks were through bolted to the bottom. My last boat, a Hondo was like that. Also the tanks were 4' long.

Just saw a hallet 77 bubble deck today with those holes in it.
I was wondering if a boat gets sunk and totaled does the INS co drill out hull, or maybe salvage person??

Never heard of that before...to me it sounds like they had something fastened down...and the holes are 1" you say? To me that sounds like a counter sink...if thats the case the hole isnt 1" all the way through the boat...probably something for a 1/4-5/16" bolt...just recently i hadto drill the four front holes for my intake and had to countersink the holes and it makes a fairly larger hole but not all the way through the bottom of the boat....
