I used to have a 78 Horizon Tunnel hull with a 496bbc and a berkley jet with droop snoot and a place diverter. It was a great boat for my first boat. It was a heavy boat and only got 78mph @ 5500 but it handled good and turned good.

I have co-owned a 73 Horizon 18ft since the mid 70's.  I am pretty sure that is the most reliable piece of machinery I will ever own. Handles like a slot car but not great in chop.  Small block powered with a jacquzzi pump so it was never real fast.  It has had at least 15 different people learning to ski behind it and one time it pulled up 5 teenagers at once. Back to back bench seat is perfect for cruising and lounging (and doing the nasty  >:D ).  Purple metalflake so we named it Plum Loco.  I am trying to convince my partner to bring it out of the barn for the Parker trip in June so I don't have to drive "the ark" all day.  In my opinion you can't go wrong with a Horizon.

Horizon!!! I've been trying to remember the name of that turd since I've been blogging on thesee pages!!!!  We thought it was the uglyest watercraft since wood first floated.  But It has the best story I have in Jet boat history.  We were racing at Bluewater, I think it was an APBA race ( or NJBA) probably in the early 70's. Comp Jet Circles and I'm sitting on the shore watching the race and this Horizon was running wayyyyy to high when it hit a roller and headed for for the clouds.  We all took a big gulp of air as I'm sure the driver was doing and watched as the damn thing did't go all the way around and landed straight on it's intake and kept going never even loosing it's place.  Us on the shore silently looked at each other wondering if we actually saw what just happened and when we understood that it did cheered for the ugly sob.  funniest thing I ever saw.  It didn't race long though as the rest of us were getting better all the time and the old Horizon pretty much hit the end of it's development by that time. ( I think the driver was running out of BVD's by that time too.

Yeah those horizons were really butt ugly with that goofy deck that looked like someone steped on it and those big ass dropped chines. Very strange, wide boat.

We had one in for repairs one time and Roger and I were looking at it before lunch and he bet me that the deck would hold 5 gallons of water. I said no way but ended up buying lunch. I think he set me up.  ;)

Mine is similar but not the same, especially back by the motor.  They aren't ALL ugly guys.  And for the most part they seem to be well built.

yeah cj410, that's the one. It's no tunnel though, it's just that typical old Horizon with the dropped chines.  That's the later deck though, the early ones had a deck on it close to the one the Holmes has on it elsewhere in this thread. And I never said they weren't well built, just ugly.

I bet.

Roger Weiman took the idea of the droped chines on the Horizon and did his own version of it with the 19TR and the 20 Bonneville which were both based on his legendary 18 footer. Here's a good shot of them from the rear on this one below. Like your Horizon, they rode and handled great too.  :)

My dad had one of these when I was growing up.  75 Horizon with gold flake gelcoat, 460 BBF, and a Jacuzzi Jet.  That boat would turn on a dime and throw you out the side if you weren't paying attention.  Good memories.

If anyone knows of a similar one, I would love to pick one up.
