kONA HULL
« on: July 16, 2008, 07:27:50 PM »
What is the deal with KONA hull? Is it worth putting a little bit of money into?  Not looking to make a fast boat, just one thats looks clean and turn key.
Any info could help me.
thanks Curtis

I cant complain about mine so far.  I am running low to mid 60s with an olds and a AA impeller.  I believe that Dozzr is in the low 70s with and olds turning an A impeller.  Mine handles well and is a pretty solid boat.

I am happy with the Kona, its my first boat but growing up we had a sleek kraft, the only thing that I am weary of is turning I have spun it out twice now and that sucks the fun right out of the moment (although the adrenaline rush is cool  ;D ) it seems to like a little chop better than glass and I have had it in some pretty choppy ocean like conditions learning which lakes I can go on  and not, it is solid but heavy, not a top choice for racing, but at least it doesnt feel like its gonna break when the water gets nasty, its fast enough to make the skin on my face ripple and I have had more than one person scream to slow it down. All-in-all its a cool boat, nice lines, sturdy, and it even makes the chebbie guys nervous, and yes it has pissed a few of them off  ;D
Here is what Nates wife (N8DAWG) said after a ride in it,

"John's (DOZZR) boat sure looked clean and the Olds sounded mean (after he took his baffles out...that is ).
Michelle said your boat rides smooth. Also that it would of kicked our Millers ASS! I still have yet to ride in that thing. Good job...lets do it again this weekend! Hit me up."

I have a friend that has a 76 Kona, very nice boat rides great on the river, he wont take it on the lake though. His is a true 70 mph boat, seen it with my own eyes on GPS. We did spin out in a very fast turn though but like it was said before...what a ride!

Mine did 69.9 on the gps but I let off the throttle before it gave me the final reading, that was last year before the rubuild, "c" heads, and an offy intake and a 750 holley. I now am running the "e'' heads, decked the block, surfaced the heads, bought the tunnel ram w/dual 600's, and I put a stuffer and a loader in it, I still don't have it all dialed in, but already the difference is noticeable. I am getting real curious  to see what its going to do now.
