Tx-19? Are these good Boats?

Hello all, I'm fairly new to jet boating but not boating, been in or around boats my entire life so wanting to scratch an itch so to speak. I'm looking for a boat to suit my needs
which are speed, good looks and decent choppy water handling. I have been looking at tx-19 youngbloods and like the tunnel hull design. Anyone with experience with these type of watercraft. Set me straight on the ride characteristics of this particular boat. Also would like to heads-up race when the need arises. So lets hear it guys.

Out here the TX19's are mostly made by California Performance. They are one of the most, if not the most, desirable hulls. They can handle big power and triple digit speeds. My buddy put the same motor from his old Sleekcraft into his new CP and gained 10 MPH. They ride fairly smooth and can get "aired" out at higher speeds. Many of the racers use this hull. Not positive on the choppy water handling. I wish I had one.

Some gullwing and tunnel purist will cut your head off for sayin the TX's are made by California performance .

They both made similar hulls and some will tell you all day long what the diffrences are . I dont know them . Definatly a performance boat but usually too light for choppy water . Gullwings have been known to get ugly upon shutdown from higher speeds . Earl Smith made the TX's and Bill scotten MAKES the CP .

Ok TX19's might not be CPs, but you get my point. They are super similar, and I would imagine most characteristics would be similar too. My experience has been in a real CP by Bill Scotten, not a TX19 or whatever.

I thought the TX and CP were the same because of the information provided on this website:

If you click on "The TX19" on the left side then scroll down, it shows you many builders that produced the TX19 or derivatives of it and California Performance was one of them. I guess it must be a derivative of the TX19, according to the website.

Lots of people say they came from the same molds and so on and so forth . Believe me , I dont know much more if any more than you do . From what I remember , Earl Smith had some molds that someone else got there hands on or something like that . The CP bottom had a bunch of work done to it . Honestly , I dont know and I'm the last one to argue it . You could be right on and I'm waaaay off . Both of those boats performance is undeniable and has been copied probably as much as any other boat . Personally you cant lose either way .

I have the TX19 gullwing (Youngblood) mold that Dave Batista had at So Cal Boats. I'm in So Cal and will be going into production very soon. To the best of my knowledge, the only diff between the CP and the Youngblood was a slight diff in the deck mold. The Youngblood had a slight bit more bubble in the deck and the CP was a little flatter. As far as i know, the CP bottom is a Youngblood bottom.

How lite are you going to lay these up?

A solid river lay up should be in the 550 range with 1" stringers. We'll see when the first one comes out

Personally, I'd rather take some weight out in the hardware and possibly run lumi heads to save some weight. I can't see trying to build these things in the 400-450 range (I know it's been done before). When they get that light, it's a potato chip.

Nothing in the mold yet. Still finishing up my other project. The mold should be going in soon to be detailed and then the first boat will go in. Got some trick rigging ideas and looking for more. I'll be doing a little research at ming in a couple of weeks, and hopefully by Nov/Dec the first boat will go in. Don't worry, I'll post pics when it's ready... RD

Didn't want something cheesy or monster truck sounding, so I think I'm just going with Rouse Performance Boats. The corp is Rouse Performance Marine Inc, so we were going to call it RPM Customs Boats, but then that cheesy thing came around again.

Jason, I think RPM Custom Boats sounds good, you know as well as I do that it's going to get shortened up by everyone anyway, might as well start there. Think about DCB, how often do you hear someone refer to them as Dave's ~~Copied~~ I mean Custom Boats?

Do you have a place to do your layup? I have a very good 'glass company in Bakersfield that loves to do side stuff, let me know if you're interested.

Thanks Skip..... I've lood around and at this point I'm going to be using Genesis. They are very local for me and Joel and his guys do outstanding work. They do several others including the new DCM cruisers. Saw one at the shop the other day it was about as beautiful as I have seen. Thanks for the info though and I'll keep it in mind. Jason

I'm about to piss myself......... First G-wing goes in the mold tomorrow morning. It's been a long wait and alot of work to get to this point, but I'm hoping it'll be worth it. Shooting for around 550 pounds. Come on by the NJBA race and take a peek, should be in the vendor area with a blank hull. Jason
