are you talking about the uscg placard with the make/model and how much weight it can hold?  thats different than the HIN number.  those are only required on a boat under 20 feet...

yeh thats your USCG weight rating card.  not your HIN.

So a jet doesn't need the weight tag? And I think I'll just make my own to hopefully satisfy the po po. Thanks for the info

laws state that the HIN needs to be stamped into the hull OR on a placard somewhere on the hull.  i would take your current HIN from your registration card, go to a trophy shop and have them engrave it onto a piece of metal and then affix that to the inside of the transom.  that way if it ever comes up you can point and say "thats the way its always been..."
