Anyone have bucket seat blueprints?
« on: April 15, 2014, 10:34:18 PM »
Hey guys I'm trying to build a couple buckets seats for my boat and I'm wondering if anyone have any blueprints or dimensions from some they've built in the past? Thanks

I think I have some of the original Kirkey seat drawings from the race boat. They were aluminum, but can't see why they could not be made from fiberglass or wood.

These things were so comfortable, if we weren't constantly taking flight over rapids at over 85MPH, you could have gone to sleep...  :-\

Wow those look like a masterpiece. Something you want to frame and hang up in the living room instead of a TV.

Yeah each. I made ours. The guys at Kirkey hooked us up with a design for a fee, they could not get them make in time and our seats did not need to be SFI certified.

I always wanted to buy a third seat and cut it in half and build one with flat stock that has been broken to match the contour. How cool would that be.

I have to get my seats welded up from the Carrera so I can share some pictures. They're going to be off the hook. Just no money or time. As soon as the roof is done on the house and my solar system is up and running I will have some room to maneuver.

go and get yourself a couple sheets of foam board.  its cheap, like $6 a sheet, and you can cut it easily with a razor blade, knife, or jigsaw and slap it together with some tape to make templates for what you PLAN to build.  you can see how it fits in the boat, if you need to trim it down, if you can sit in the drivers seat with enough room, does a cooler slide between the seats so you can put it under the deck, etc.  then once you're ready break it down and trace out the template onto some plywood and really cut it out and assemble it...

some tips... for the seat bases, cut two.  then trim a seat cushion base out of one of them.  they'll fit back in snugly and your upholstery guy will thank you for leaving him something to staple into.  dont forget to leave some room for foam.  also seats that are too snug, rub.  and rubbing vinyl on sunburns doesnt feel good.

I didn't like Martinez and a1 marines cookie cutter designs and anything outside of that costs double or triple the price. I used fiber tech in Huntington beach. They were at the circle races in long beach.  It came out nice but took longer than quoted since they had some car show and a dude quit. But I had the same delays with my first boat at another shop too...

i tried doing his method with relief cuts and when i went to bend em, all it did was crack the outside skin of the plywood.  even tried soaking em in water.  he has some magic trick that allows him to do awesome stuff like that.

Relief cuts aren't real tough....
Not the easiest thing either if you aren't a wood worker....

I have a little something brewing....
Keep your eyes peeled.
