anyone putting carpet in your boat this year
« on: April 22, 2009, 06:28:56 PM »
I read a post on a guy putting cpt in his boat, he got alot of good sugestions to .I wanted to tell anyone thinking of doing cpt in your boat do not buy just any cpt glue or any from lows home depot ect? go to a cpt supply store (any yelow pages should have it in your area or ask a cpt store where one is)anyway you want an extierior cpt glue waterproof use a 1/8 inch trowel for a smooth surface go to 3/16 if it has alot of old glue on it preferably you should scrape off the old glue .the reason is the new glues out now are mostly waterbase like paint and will break down plus most carpet backing is put on with a water base glue so the marine glue will help to hold that backing together.good luk with your job and remember use new blades when you cut becouse cpt cuts better with new blades and its cheraper than stiches(ouch) O0 ive been in the cpt buisness 25 years and have replaced a few jobs done buy cheep glue

If you've been in the business for years then you know the majority of adhesives are geared tword action/jute backed carpets not marine carpet. Personally I don't like carpeting in a small boat, but that's just me.

Hmmm and i've spent a week trying to figure out if I can use my carpet cleaner to somehow clean the carpet in the moo boat, maybe it won't work. A lot of oil stains from the construction process, lol

Dammit, new carpet???? When does it end?  :banghead:

just did my carpet....used some stuff i got from west marine.  here it is.... carpet glue

seems to be pretty good stuff.  we'll see after this season, and was pretty easy to apply with a trowel.

i used exterior carpet glue from home depot. and i tell you what i think it was almost overkill i could not get that carpet up to save my life. and half of the carpet matt stayed glued to the floor. it was a pain in the ass. the carpet is on the floor i dont see why it would need to be that stuck to the floor.

just my lesson i just learned. use glue sparingly
