5 blade impeller

WTF? Does anyone have info? I just looked and the impeller has atleast 5 blades. Is this a high performance deal, or is it like a "D" cut? I haven't ran this pump yet but it seems to have had a lot of work done. It has a loader and had a shoe that has been removed. It appears to be a 4 degree intake layed in to make it a 6 degree. I have zero experience with the pumps. In the past I have ran an A/T out of the box but have never made any changes. same with a berkley.

Is it a Jacuzzi WJ pump ? If so, I believe they all had 5 blade impellers (some where stainless). They also have a strange stock intake grate design that might fool you into thinking it had a shoe that has been removed if it has been changed (any pics of the intake ?).

You mean like this one? Precision Jet makes them. I haven't had it out yet so can't tell you what difference there is between that one and a standard B impeller. They come in the same cuts as the standard ones. It's a billet piece. It is like a work of art though, very well machined, and light.

They also make 4 bladed billet versions, in both stainless and aluminum. For now the 5 blades are only available in aluminum. Not cheap, but by the time you buy a regular impeller and have it detailed it probably works out about the same.

Thank you Brad. I believe it is worth about $30 at the scrap yard. When I give it to you, you should atleast scrap it.
It is a WJ, I just didn't want anyone to know. I can't tell if it is SS or aluminum. As for the shoe, I will look again. But I think that you are right. It appears to have had one, but at the same time I can't see any bolt holes where it would have bolted on.

What you might be seeing that you think was for a shoe is, and I'm not 100% sure on this, Tom at JBP showed it to me once but I really didnt care about a Jacuzzi so it kinda slipped through my brain. I think the stock rock grate had a flat section on the back of it that fits into a recessed area on the back of the intake (where a shoe would go). If I remember right, he explained to me that it is a bit of an issue when people put a loader in them. Without that back edge from the stock rock grate the intake's biting edge is now higher (like raising a shoe, a lot). I think he mentioned that they where thinking about building loaders for them that actually go all the way back to that area and fill the recessed area like it should. If it was set up (machined) for a shoe, it will be 100% flat behind the intake opening all the way to the back of the intake, and it will have threaded holes to mount the shoe/rideplate.

All Jacuzzi WJ , HJs and PJX's came with 5 blade impellers and although the intakes are tecnically 4* we often find them set in at 5*+ for various reasons Pics in your situation would be invaluable

Greg, Kimball (Precision Jet) has expiriemented with these (5 blade Impy's) for Berk type applications for years with out gaining much popularity but they do work according to his test results We have used his Billets 4 blades with sucess but not the 5's Tom

Still cant see the intake "shoe" area at the rear of the intake opening but FYI , These (and all grates) are subjected to a lot of stress and harmonics causing cracking, most are simply made from mild steel , the areas marked provide only very marginal strength and support on the "River racer" loaders that were once widley sold for these particular jets , caution to consider removing bead blasting , painting white (crack check) and inspecting inspecting with every use Tom
