Berk jc 455 olds
« on: March 06, 2016, 10:09:23 PM »
Well today I finally opened up my pump for the first time...and the impeller is done. So i will be replacing that but i have a few questions... Some backround ive owned this boat for about two years and last season And rod bearing decided to let loose. It was a very mild motor (stocker) and the impeller is a A2 cut

Anyway my first question...
if the impeller is missing part of the fin would that mess up my rpm range...cause the engine would rev well past 5k and on take off it would rev high then level out, or a worn out wear ring or both

Second question... The rebuilt engine has 9 to 1 compression, xe274 comp cam with ka heads with a torker manifold will another a2 impeller be a good match for this engine?

Buy an A and a wear ring.

That impeller would likely calculate out to be about an AB.

What caused the bearing issue?

Especially with an Olds, A2 Berk or AA American Turbine to keep the RPMs sub 5,000

Hole shot would be neck snapping...

Just my $.02

The lower you can keep the RPM on a 455 the better to be honest. I think I would stick with an AA. 455's are known for their oiling problem and don't really like to run at high rpm for long periods. There are some things that you can do to help fix the oiling problems, but they aren't cheap.

So just go with an "a"...

And my other question...if that wear ring is toast would that let the motor hit a higher rpm?

Yes.

What kind of hull are we talking about? That could make the difference in choosing an A or AA.

Being as it had about 1,200 hours on it it did alright. Probably 55, never really measured it with anything with any precision.

We used it every weekday after work for about four years. Loved that boat.

I payed $350 for it from the tow yard. The registration cost me more. Lol
