Berkeley 12ja pump questions?

Ok guys, skool me on pumps just a bit. So on my 68 wieman, before I pulled the bowl off the Berkely 12ja and found that when I spin the shaft there would be tight spots and loose spots as I spun the shaft. The previous owner told me that he sucked up a rope. So I pulled the bowl off and found some bits of rope. And looks like the end of the shaft had a bit of a mushroom to it. Like it was wacked. Also with bowl off there's some up and down and all around play in shaft. None with bowl on. And I when I spun it I noticed the impeller has a little wiggle in it. Right wear a abrasion starts to where the abrasion ends. Is that normal? Is it possible to bend a impeller? Or bend a shaft? Is the abrasion from the rope or is it just do too balancing it?

If you have an Aluminum impeller, there is a possibility it could bend. From my understanding, the impeller and shaft should be balanced for the best results. There shouldn't be much play in the shaft and should spin with nothing catching. I know Hardine Marine has all the parts for your JC-A pump. It is the same pump I have on my 1972 Tahiti. Also check out some YouTube videos on rebuilding the unit, you might find some useful info there as well.
