Berkeley. Will this work?

I'm looking to build a "fast" boat in the near future. I got a pump for free and wondering if it is going to suit my needs. I belive it is the JC model. I want to put a droop snoot, place diverted and different prop into it. I know I need a split bowl to do so and the JC is not. Can I put a different bowl on this pump or should I just sell it and start over?

A g bowl will work, or you can have a shop convert the c bowl to a split bowl. Some believe the  conversion is better because the c has longer veins. You will want to put a impeller in the pump, I don't think a prop will work.

There is no difference between the jc pump and jg the are the same but the bowls and jc flows better but if u wanna drop then u need a jg bowl it will bolt up

There's a little more than just putting on a droop and a diverter to it in order to make a fast boat, which I'm sure the guys will tell you. ;)

If you don't have the motor to turn that pump it's just going to look pretty on the trailer.

Ya this is a slow build and I got the pump for free so it's just the start. Looking to build a clean 468-496 on nitrous and find a nice light hull wich I think will be the hard part. Any suggestions on what the best pump set up would be. When I'm done I should have plenty of power to turn the pump.

Build the pump right the first time... Like a stuffer, pre loader (sits right in front of imp) an split bowl. Impeller size will matter on hull/HP. Have the intake machined for a shoe... Once you have the hull more than likely you will be in the A-B range of imp ( stainless would be a good option). You can ad the snoot/wedges of choice then with trial/era. If getting a place diverter, get it machined for fine tune nozzle. Last a good loader grate. If the shaft is used, might want to upgrade to a stronger high HP shaft along with the driveline.

There are a couple ways you can go.  The black bowl is a Berkeley G bowl, identifiable by the thick register at the suction flange.  Compared to the B bowl, the G will build pressure faster on the initial hit because of the decreased volume in front of the vanes.  Not a huge deal if you are not class racing.  Both bowls can have a stuffer installed to further increase the hit.

The most performance gains will come from a well detailed impeller set up with proper clearances.  Detailing the impeller will reduce cavitation which will translate into a hard launch as well as all around gains.  After you have some performance numbers on your engine, then you can choose an impeller cut to match.  Basically, you can add RPM by cutting it down from an A to a B etc., but you can't go back the other way.

Adding an inducer will make a noticeable difference in your launch with a few MPH on the top end.

Adding more horsepower and/or a stainless impeller would necessitate upgrading to a 17-4 or AQ shaft to prevent twisting the splines.  IMO, American Turbine makes the nicest shafts.

Detailing the bowl will further reduce cavitation and increase efficiency and thrust by reducing turbulence.  A box stock Dominator bowl is roughly equivalent to the best detailed Berkeley bowl and can be detailed for even greater performance.

What kind of boating are you looking to do?

Absolutely, machining your intake for a shoe and ride plate gives great tuning and ride quality.

A loader makes a world of difference.  A jet pump is not self priming and needs to be force fed.
