Black or White Dominator pump
« on: December 27, 2008, 07:08:41 PM »
I understand there is a difference between the black and white Dominator pumps? The black being old style/casting. The white being the new style/casting. Is one better them the other? I have the opportunity to buy a black Dominator complete, from the intake to the place diverter, with cable and stringer mount control handle. The price is $700.00. I have to drive for 7 hours to pick it up. I would have it shipped, but the seller won’t pull the bowl to see if it ate a rock.
If there are any pros/cons in this purchase please help with all information. Thanks for looking at my post. schick

The Jets are very similar but have several  distinct differences when it comes to rebuild in terms of unique 3/4 or 7/8 width wear ring design and "odd" wear ring OD (very early to mid ) , most parts will swap , the early bowls are different as well. Very early have water lubed tail shaft bushings and different exit vanes real late have 'greasables" (zerk at back of bowl ) The nozzle adaptor size for the early Dom is a smidge different than Berk and later Dom , very early Place diverters were made differently for this reason lots of minor pit falls , mostly for the rebuilder.  Outstanding quality for both pieces. The price (if in good shape) is good and fair IMO I'd be on it like a Fat kid on cake ..Tom

PS they all bolt directly to a berk suction
PSS if you decide you dont want it please let us know

Tom,  Thanks for the reply. I have rebuilt/blueprinted a few Berkley’s. Is this something I can do my self? I understand from one of my other threads, that Dominators are very part specific according to year. Am I going to be able to tell the difference in parts, or will the pump part numbers take care of that for me? Thanks, schick

Shick the jets are very similar to berk ,same procedures apply , the model and serial #s will tell the difference plus the OD and W/R width measurement are critical when ordering , I typically stock these parts and kits Tom
