Got my first JET BOAT this past summer. After many learning experiences, and new everything but pump, I have a few questions. My boat is a BAJA Sport 200, and is 20', and about 3000lbs. It is alot "taller", and more like a normal boat than many of the JETS I see on this site. It has a covered motor, and looks just like any other 80's I/O boat. The top speed of the boat is about 51mph, (GPS CONFIRMED) @ 4600 RPM. From what I understand, with my A impeller, 4600 rpm= about 350HP. My question is that I have heard about many other boats running much higher speeds at this same RPM, with the same impeller. Can I assume that the weight of my boat is the limmiting factor on my top speed? I'm sure that most of the low profile, smaller JETS are significantly lighter than mine, and would therefore be "faster" with the same Horsepower, and impeller. Any ideas/comments that would confirm, or deny my way of thinking would be helpfull. Of course I would love to have a 70-75 mph boat, but the boat runs great as it is, and burns enough gas already, so I do not plan on making any big engine HP changes just to gain the top speed. Basicly just wondering if I am already pretty close to my boats maxximum potential with my motor/impeller combo.

X's 2 on wieght and distribution , shed everything you don't need to carry for your outings , also check the subfloor areas and voids for water and if the boat has floatation foam make sure it hasn't become water logged over the years (water weighs a ton) . Weight you dop have Anchors , tools etc should all be kept back aft. Also I may have misssed it but I didn't see if you have a bow tank ? or if your E pump had Trim (Jet0Vator or Place diverter) if not trimming the boat alone will make a huge difference in the speed not to mention the ride and handling Tom

My boat is a pretty big boat for a jet and has a semi deep v, check out the pics i posted just belowe your posted stating, coupletechnical questions.  If its about the same im dealing with the same question and maybe some of the responses will help you.

My boat it a 23 foot with a cuddy cabin.   When I put the roost all the way up it slows the boat down.
When the roost is about 10 feet behind the boat is best for mine.   You can actually feel the hull free up.

There is a vid on youtube of a BAJA just like mine,-only its an I.O. running along on about the last 3 inches of the hull,---skipping and bouncing all over the place.  Mine can do that to, it just doesn't have the top end. I have not been able to get any pics of my boat up on the site for some reason, but I will try again. There is about 2 feet of ice on all the lakes around here, but come spring, I will get some video of the boat, and get it up on the site. Mine looks just like that one, only it is BLACK where that one is RED, and has a custom interior.
