JG Bowl with droop snoot on JE?
« on: May 29, 2008, 04:16:34 PM »
Just a thought. I had Jack McClure do my JE pump a few months ago, and he recommended getting a new bowl because mine was kinda worn. My works but not as good as a better one. I think he said one from a JC would work. I don't really plan on changing it right this second, but would eventually like to change the bowl and get a diverter. My question is: Can I put a JG bowl and droop snoot on? I know the droop requires extended steering adapters. JE has different steering than JG, JC, etc. Could I do it if I had a the nozzle and and steering arm from a JG? Are the cable ends different on JE? I know they come out from a different spot on the transom. Am I just spinning my wheels or should I just look for a JC bowl and get a diverter and forgetting adding a droop snoot. I think the JE intakes are smaller and have limitations, will they be able to handle a droop meaning that much more of the boat out of the water?

Its just a thought. It runs great after Jack did his magic. Probably just end up getting a PD, but I would still appreciate everyone's opinion.

Your gonna want a diverter anyways so I'd go that way and avoid all the headaches . It's all possible , just a whole lotta headache for not alot of benefit . Besides , the C bowls flow better than the G bowls do .

I don't think you can add a droop to a JE (with any bowl) but I could be wrong.

You can actually put a "split bowl" droop ,straight snoot etc etc but will find it simpler to reconfigure the steering to a "Splash well" type similar to those used in set backs etc , or face a bitch of a time trying to re engineer the "low mount" right side oe set up. Simple and easy ,dont buy you diverter till you've made the decision however . The standard (non "E") PD with work well with a Split bowl Droop combo and save you some bucks you will also need to do a little ride plate work  call if I can help you with this Tom

(not and "E"  but an example "splash well" for you )

Thanks for the reply Tom.
I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet. $$$$ is always a limiting factor. I know I want a diverter and will probably just get that to save all the headaches. The pump is still fairly strong even with the existing bowl. Takes off great even with 6 people and a cooler.
