Is there anyway I can check my pump without taking it apart.
I've heard there were loader bearing adjustments that needed to be looked at  ???
How about loosening the throwout lever  ???

The best way to "check" you pump is with the boat in the water.

First off you need to check your accelleration with a 5000rpm neutral drop.

Then check your output at top speed by placing your hand over the nozzle.

Call us back with the information you gathered and we will be more than happy to help.

Those things never go bad, dont worry about it.

If you want to check it though, just start the boat (on the trailer) and shove a stick up the intake.  If wood chips come out of the nozzle, its fine.  >:D

You can also check overall nozzle velocity and volume by utilizing a Place Diverter at WOT full up pointed at a courtesy dock with a Park Ranger standing on it, if he is able to get out of the water and write you a ticket or arrest you, the velocity and volume numbers are inadequate.

I thought you had to put a metal pipe up the intake and check for shavings. if it grated the pipe you were good! Damn, been doing it wrong!

Thats a good way too, but sticks are free and I always need wood chips for the planters.  ;D

BTW,  If the boats not as fast as it should be, dont bother rebuilding the pump.  Just smear a bunch of sillycone around the impeller. It works wonders.

If thats the case, my last boat (Never had in water) should of been the fastest boat ever and it only had a Jac WJ in it!  ::)

The loader Bearing clearance should be set with the shims that come with the installation package four blue ones and four red ones ,mix and match the colored shims until the bearing spins freely you only want about a .020  of play between the loader and the bearings remember if one of them goes bad you might as well replace all four, easy fix just drop the loader down the bearings will come with it their held in by the four screws  be careful as you set the new bearing on that you don't forget to grease them. good luck    Good times Brad I forgot who was there that night.

Ah yea I remember back in the day when Steve King built the first loaders for himself and Craig Millet.
They were very basic, we didn't even use barrings! Bronze bushings were what we used in the first few attempts.  Boy you can just imagine what happened when those let go! Clearances where not even thought to be important, boy were we wrong on that one too! I think it was the Firebird race in '74 when we finally figured out what we were doing wrong and finally designed a set of bearing cups to fit two double roller sets with two way seals, That setup would be envied even today. Built for stout too never had to work on them the entire racing year.
