Diverter

Brother in law sent me this pic. Looking forward to: cleaning it up and painting....then bolting it up. Any tips on that??? And I have to 'gulp' drill a hole in the transom too......
Also
Gonna have to get a cable, any recommendations, do I need an official 'Place Diverter' cable?
 Never had one before.....

I's say in the long run you're better off getting a split bowl instead of modifying that one.

Sorry... That's the 'donor' pump up in Oregon in the picture....he removed the diverter and is shipping to me....

Mine is a 12JG... I went to the PD website..... I downloaded  directions they have, but they never have those tips needed to make it a smooth installation. I'm figuring to buy a 'rebuild kit from PD also.

Anyway. Any tips would be appreciated

You already have a split bowl and the donor is for a non split bowl.

It will work on the split bowl....

The cable you'll need will be a generic cable available at almost any boat shop.  You will need to figure out how long it needs to be.

You might have enough room to drill and run the cable through the top section of the Berkeley transom cover.  That way you don't have to put any extra holes in the hull.

The cable that your going to need has a 43BC designation (old Morse number)..

The Teleflex is a 4300BC

Hint; the "BC" stands for "Bulkhead" on one end "Clamp" on the other.. :thumbup:

Probably going to be between 15' and 17', depends on where you mount the control dealio... That is an old style Place... You may want to look into a ride plate if you don't already have one... Many times the intake needs to be milled to accept it, but there are bolt on kits available.

The early Place Diverters have that snorkel hanging down and depending on how you hull rides can parachute a little bit robbing speed..

Still a great investment for overall performance of the boat.

Here's a bolt on ride plate with a droop.

I won't notice a difference with it until the motor goes pop and then gets built with another 100 hp. I'm sure it gained efficiency by preventing the pump hardware from dragging in the water but she's just too piggy to dry the hull out. 58 mph is a GPS best. I GPS'd 57 before the droop and plate but different climate and elevation so who knows.

Just because I pointed out the old style Place Diverter, BIG JOHNSON has the later design with a built in ride area.   :thumbup:

Yes, the diverter is from the early 80's , I spoke to Tim @ Place and I'm shipping it to him for a 'tune up' before I install it.
He's going to machine the seal groove so it will accept the thicker newer type seal, and RR all the bushings.  I'm going to try it without the ride plate first, then go from there.

I appreciate the tips !!!

Cont....

Pulling the nozzle..... Came off with no problems. Looks ok. I will have to get new nylon inserts all around as the ones that were in it are pretty thin. I also want to RR the  bolts holding the nozzle housing as they are mismatched:  5 Allen bolts and 3 studs with bolts holding it on.  While I have it off, is there anything other than obvious damage to look for?  I haven't done this before and want to cover all the bases while I've got it apart.   Also: the photo if the bolt/ retainer clip (off the F/Rev cable ). Where can I buy one? It looks ok, but the closest  marine store is 100 miles from me I want backup.

The allen's holding the nozzle in are 3 different lengths....and the stud/ bolt combo  were barely hanging on....i guess that's all the previous owner had when he put the wedge on. Speaking of which, it says its a 2• degree Super Jet'
Will I need the wedge when I put the diverter on?
