Fuel usage

Sorry if this is the wrong spot for my question

So I currently have a eliminator 207 skier with a 350 and a alpha one... im considering selling it for a spectra 20. I love these boats but they are hard to find with an outdrive.

How bad is the fuel consumption on a mini day cruiser jet boat vs an I/O? this my only concern... I can currently do 4-5 laps on elsinore on 15ish gallons.

why get rid of the eliminator? mpg is gonna be the same... mayyyybe a little worse depending on pump effeciency/wear. but in reality whos lookin at the gas gauge in these things? just throw money at it.

I love my boat... I took it out about 35 times last summer and ive already gone 4 times this year. I live in elsinore which makes taking it out easy. Problem is the lake is getting low and ive smacked my prop twice already.

I dont want to miss out on boating if the lake level gets any lower.

All depends on your engine/jet/hull. My Hallett 23ft with a mild 460 and Berkeley JC with a place Diverter did remarkably well. 3 days in Parker on 32 gallons. Never did laps at Elsinore but still. A 350 I/O will get better mileage but a jet system when set up right with a BBC or BBF is not terrible.

1-3 mpg with a 466 BBF 850dp jet... Just hold a milk carton upside down, thats about how quick.

It's gallons per mile on my beast.
It's hard to beat the cool factor is a jet boat. When my wallets thin and cost is a factor you'll find me in the family cruiser(prop boat)!!!!

i have a 21 vdrive that caught my eye recently... thats the only way you'll get decent mpg out of a boat... toss a transmission in front of the drive.

Well thanks for your extremely useful input captain... (pun intended)

I DD a silverado and play in the desert with a bronco. Im not extremely concerned about fuel mileag I just dont want my current 100$ in fuel on a weekend of boating to turn into 300$

I have twin 15gal tanks I go to elsinore all the time I run a 502 with a berk. I dont look for mph when I get done I have used a half a tank.

Here's the way I see it.
The lower the prop gets, the better the "fuel consumption".
Ourboards, hands down
V drive in my option with the option in gearing a trans, v drive and props.
I/o with prop selection.
And dragging ass in last a jet.
It's all gonna come down to what's more important.
The way I see it, you should pick the one you like the most and optimize the hardware and be done with it.

I can burn 14 -15 GPH in a big block jet, lets call it 60 MPH to keep it simple. At 60 MPH our big block I/O burns closer to 7-8 GPH. Top speed of our Spectra 20 with a big block was right at 60, top speed on the Big block I/O powered 22' Crusader is about 70MPH.

My small block Alpha I/O in a 20.5 foot Carrera Elite should do about the same (70MPH at close to 7 GPH)... The only reason I say it is because that is what the boat mine is modeled after does. It had a 350 MPI in it.

I live in Lake Elsinore and I go there all the time. Ive got a 21' Commander with a 468 Chevy with a Berkley jet. Jets have the worst mileage because you can not compress water. Props are much more efficient. Ever seen a jet on a 30+' boat? Lately times are tight. I go one half lap to the Cove, then half lap to the ramp. Unless I got kids and were are doing wakeboarding. ;-)

yeah i know. it took 8 seconds of nitrous for firebird, so we used a bunch.
We did a few things between the races, but adding the new crank trigger going from 36 to 40 on the motor woke her up! that Q116 really is some good stuff!
