Hi guys, I just bought a jet boat, it has a Jacuzzi not sure which one yet but I was underneath the boat today and noticed all but one of the "fin" type things are broken off. One is still there but it's in bad shape. Is this going to effect the boats performance at all and if I need to replace it are there better ones than others? Any and all help is app.

The fins covering the hole or the fins on either side of the hole .

and on an aditional note....if it is the rock grate...replace it ASAP.....if one finger fell off, who knows if the others will and if they do, they can go into your pump and that will distroy it. ;)

the way i read it is the intake grate is broken, and if so replace it or get a loader if it's the wj pump
edit, i think they make one for the yj pump as well

How do I tell which pump it is, is there something stamped into it that I haven't seen. And... I'm in Northern California anyone know where I can find parts for it. I took the boat out over the weekend and it seemed to perform ok except the hydraulic trim motor is shot (bad brushes rusty etc). When i get the boat on a plane ang go along for a while and mash on the gas it takes off a little bit faster but the engine kinda kicks in and goes like hell but the boat doesn't go any faster, kinda like the transmission is slipping. I know guys lol there is no transmission. It just seems like that. Do you think a loader will help?

To me it sounds like the impeller has been hurt, from the missing fingers of the grate.

Replace the grate!!! ASAP!!! If it runs like dog shit when you hit the gas the impeller is most likely shot. The missing finger probebly fell apart and damaged it. Call Tom at JBP or Emanon and let them help you. Their the pro's. Personally Tom rebuilt the jet on my old boat and it ran like new. I'm sure Emanon does a great job also.

If this rusty loader grate is what your talking about... yes, it will help your pump load better. ;D
But, first get someone, or youself to check tolerances and condition of Impellor, make sure its up to snuff and not slipping on you ;)

After seeing the pics in this thread I knew my grate was different but could not remember why. So I got under it to get a couple pics and WTF I'm finding broken parts >:(
What can be done?

I'm going to call Jim tomorrow he said he'll walk me through the inspection on the impellor. It looks good to me but I have no idea what the tollerances are. One thing is for sure.... I need a new grate. One more question for you guys. How long can I run my Jacuzzi pump on the trailor before I damage something. Or shouldn't I run it at all?

What can be done?
My sugestion to you is call me, I will guide you through the mod process.
But here we go,
First you will need to try and copy the same angle as the other side that is not broke with a 1/4" thick piece of aluminum, so you can fill it back in.
Then you will need to use a mini angle grinder and remove all the paint and contimanents, for a good strong weld.
Third you will need to make some sort of jig to hold the new piece in place while welding.
Fourth you will need to get some sort of fire barrier that can be taped in place to protect the hull.
Fifth before any welding you will want to get about 40lbs of ice cubes and place them in the bilge area around the intake, again to help protect the hull while welding.
Sixth make sure you get a compitant welder and go very slow as to keep the extreme heat to a min.
This is very dangerous so proceed with extreme caution
There is two other ways to handle this as well.
You can take and make both side the same. Just copy the broke intake fin onto a piece of paper and cut it out then transfer that to the otherside. After you do that and cut it out you should smooth and sharpen all the leading edges.
You can copy the angle on the undamaged side and transfer it to the other side. Now the shorter side will load much better while turning the oposite way as the boat slightly slides sideways.
I you don't like any of those, you can always buy a new intake and install it in the boat.

Do we know which pump you have yet ? The easiest and safest way to protect your pump is to flush the pump before even starting it. And the with a hose up the nozzel and the water on full pressure then start it.

Just a Thought here as well ... used WJ intakes are fairly cheap ,and withstanding the fact that the Motor and jet need to come out The intake is not all that difficult to replace and reset (just a loof "grunt work" Might be a alternative to welding in the hull ? Tom
Wjs nearly always have Lexan (Plastic) wear rings and seem to be ok running for short times on the trailer When in doubt zip tie a second water hose into the intake grate to provide a little cooling/lube ...

Hello fellas I'm looking at the forward reverse cable on my Jacuzzi pump and it seems like it is lower than the bottom of the boat. Is this going to create a problem or get into a bind from the water pressure against it when underway. Seems like there should be a bracket or something on it to hold it up. Anyone ever have this problem?

The lever pushed in the open position should hold it open . Push it open and see what happens .

Johnny, as the old saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words". If you have a digital camera or a camera phone, you need to get pics up here. Makes it a lot easier for people to KNOW what you are talking about instead of GUESSING.
Where are you in the SF area? There are a couple of shops that could help you out that may be close to you. There are also lots of jet boaters in the SF area that could possibly help out. It would be a good idea to post this up on Banderlog (http://www.banderlog.com/phpBB2/index.php). You might find someone close to you that would be willing/able to have a look at your problem.
You should be able to determine whether you have a WJ or YJ by looking at the following pages.Jacuzzi WJ (http://www.cpperformance.com/products/Jet-Drives/12WJ.htm) and Jacuzzi YJ (http://www.cpperformance.com/products/Jet-Drives/12YJ.htm). Also, locate and identify the component that has the missing "fingers".
