HELP!!!! id my pump
« on: June 09, 2013, 07:45:57 PM »

Hey guys im not a complete newbie to jet boats ive done plenty of motor builds and installs and only had my last boat for couple years and never had to do any pump work the boat I have now I plan on keeping its runs fine nice family cruzer with plenty of motor but over the winter im buyin a pootoon for the family and I wanna turn the jet boat it up a lil make lil more of hot rod for nxt season however I kno my pump is holding me back I cant seem to figure out exactly what has been done to my pump guy I got the boat from keeps sayin its american turbine but the pump says jacuzzi 12yj/b so im tryin to figure out has it had an energizer kit or something done to it? And im sure its not a hot rod pump should I try to idenify what I got change impeller and rebuild or change pump completly? How much hull fabrication to switch to hot rod pump? It supposedly has an A impeller I dnt believe much of what the guy says just tryin to get an idea for my future plans

The bowl and extension parts are not Jacuzzi, and I can't read the tag on the pump housing, but from the pics would agree that it has an energizer kit on a YJ.

The biggest problem with trying to convert to a Berkeley based pump will be the need to rebuild the fiberglass around the intake housing because the Jacuzzi YJ intake is much larger than any Berk intake.

It's my understanding that your pump with its current set up should be good for moderate horsepower (up to 600ish) without issues.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Sweet thanx for the info thats what I was thinkin based on the reaserch ive done but wasnt completly sure whats been done to the pump I only plan on tryin to reach 600 horse and realisticly only gettin 5 to 550 anyway so I shouldnt worry bout the pump if its workin fine? If I was to rebuild the pump whats the best options for impellers for top speed? Are these energized yj's worth rebuilding? Could a pump like this ever see 70 mph? Thanx again for the awesome info !
