Title: Help! Jet pump not working right!
Post by: Hallettcruiser on July 18, 2015, 02:04:05 PM
I just rebuilt my energized jacuzzi yj and I'm at havasu. The boat barley planes. Does any body know what would cause this?

Check your intake grate first for grass/ect... could be causing little or no water with the blockage.

Havasu has been bad on jet boats with all the grass lately

Check for a packing problem sucking an assload of air. Otherwise...  :-\

Did you forget to install the wear ring?   ::)

Exactly what does it do?

A yj does not have packing but what's weird is that there is a little pin hole that I thought grease was supposed to come out of when greasing the bearings. But when the engine is off water is squirting out of it. I don't know maybe I need to frees it more? It's weird.

You said Energized YJ and yes it does have a seal pack, and yours has an issue...

Take a pic of the spot where water is leaking out... Once you stomp on it, the hole could be sucking air into pump.

Ya when its running no water is Cummings out so ya I would think that is sucking air. Is that enough air though?

Is the hole threaded? If so put a bolt in it or plug it up an ck.

Take your clean out cover off(while on trailer/land) an see if you can move your impeller. Just to make sure the key is still in place.

What did you put the seal together with?

You cannot use petroleum products on carbon seal. Mineral oil or soap.

It's bad seals. Happened to be.  Then the bearing went out cause it slung out the grease.

Ya the other hole in the front part of the bearings squeezed out all the grease. So I'm thinking that's probably it

You cannot use grease on a carbon faced seal..... Instant damage.

I rebuilt mine.  What are you supposed to pack the seals and bearing with?

Quality lithium fortified grease, but the seal if it has a carbon face cannot be contacted by petroleum products. You must use soap or mineral oil... Only...

Pretty much.

Things you can use for a carbon face seal.

Dishwashing liquid (Pamolive, Dawn, generic),

Astroglide (lol),

Vacuum pump oil, baby oil, vegetable oil,

Silicone lube,

Wire pulling lube,

Does water leak out of the hole on the other side when the engine is off?

It did before I rebuilt it.

Oh ok. Mine is leaking water and spiting grease out the same hole yours is. I just figured because the water was pushing the grease out. I'm pulling mine this week and putting new seals in it again. I think I got something wrong or put grease on something I shouldn't have.
