Help with identjfying a part

Was wondering if anybody could tell me what this is. Never seen one before. Has a stainless steel braided line that runs the my pump? Thanks in advance

Well need a pic of where it goes into the pump?  but from the looks of it id say it was an oil reservoir.

Is that a chevy motor and does it run to the jet pump or to the motor? the little thing in top of of the canister is it a mini pump? It looks like a oil primer. I have one similar but metal on my car, you pressurize the canister and the you flip the valve on the bottom and its suppose prime the oil system by pushing oil into the oil system to help with dry starts after sitting for long periods

No its a olds 455. The braided hose runs just behind the hand hole cover on the pump. Here is a few more pics.

Does it have a droop?
They might use that to burp the pump.

Sorry, my guess is as good as anyone elses...it isn't oil, it goes behind the hand hole cover - injecting 'something.'

There is a valve under said device which leads me to believe it is opened to relieve pressure and one he sees water in the container the valve is shut off.

That 'could' work, I agree - there are easier ways to burp, but not everyone goes the easy way.

Not at the top of the pump either, isn't that where an air bubble would be? I don't know, I've never been air-locked but logic would make me believe the bubble goes up.

That odd cam-over deal at the top looks like it would be more efficient breaking a vacuum, than relieving pressure (innie vs outie)... is there a nipple on the other side of the canister one might hook a vacuum pump to? Although I believe that a port in that spot at the inlet to the impeller would create a powerful vacuum (and air leak) on it's own, and that you should never see pressure on that side of the pump. I can't see how it would get past the impeller to get to the pressure side either.

Any Berkeley experts out there that can tell us if that is pressure, or suction right there where his line is hooked?

Just walked out and looked at my disassembled JC.

Neither (suction or pressure), on the other side of that line fitting should be the transom housing - can you snap a pic of the back of the boat, specifically the transom housing to see where that line goes?
