Impeller movement

Can someone tell how much play the impeller should have. On the shaft my impeller has movement back and forth side .thanks for the help seal and bearing needed replace

Front to back about .003"

Side to side will be basically the wear ring clearance.

Bowl bushing should measure out to have about .002" of clearance.

When in doubt, swap them out.

Well i think the bowl is in bad shape, has anyone ever had luck with a sleeve for the bearing area. Cp performance sells one.

Are the bowl bearings totally gone? If so, the area would need to be machined before a sleeve could be installed.

Yes, they are pretty bad. I was able to remove one bearing with my finger. With the sleeve that I saw on line, would that eliminate the use of oil in the bowl?. I know I'll have to have it machined to fit, but just wondering if im going the right way about this for long term repair. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, going to a sleeved bearing assembly AKA shaft saver, will not allow the bowl to be an oil bath bowl bearing setup. It would then be like the old dominators where its water lubed. You will obviously no longer use the bowl seal or the bowl end cap to make all that happen.

Is this a bad way to go trying to be a little bit conservative or should I just spend the money and buy a new bowl I mean I could if I had to but if I could save it that would be fine by me just a cruiser not a race boat thank you for your advice Brian

First I'd see how a new bushing would fit in there. If you can drop it in with your fingers, then you have to make a decision. If you search hard enough, you can find used JG bowls for about what you will have in machining your bowl and buying the shaft saver kit.
