I finally decided to crawl under my boat and look at the intake.  Is this a loader, or rock grate. or what exactly?

you dont need that, it will only slow you down and suck up ski rope, send it to me immediatly ;D

pretty much....they are about $100-$200 depending on the performance you desire.... its the 'best bang for your buck' mod on a jet.
