Hi Folks. Long time no post. No boats anymore but getting the itch. I do however fix some stuff here and there. I did this to an intake when it was out of the boat. You can do it however on your back and be careful with the drill and tap. Yes 5/16-18 black oxides work well. I do however wonder if the "bumps" can be spot faced a little to gain more clearance for the oil pan. This will also allow you to put a captured safety nut on the top. I do not use nylock nuts for this situation. I use nuts that utilize deformation to utilize the locking set up. McMaster has these nuts.
Ok so getting anything flat and square on these intakes is a joke.

I tap on my mill and finish by hand with these drivers

Here is what I am talking about maybe spot facing these "bumps" down a litte and putting a lock nut on top for added security.
