TO FRAME MY QUESTION: Just received a loader I purchased from a private party for $350. It is made of steel and its primed apparently meant to be painted or powder coated. I would estimate that it weighs about 12 lbs. The application is a '76 19' Eliminator Bubbledeck. The engine is a BBC recently completed and built for both low end torque and rpm. No blower. Est hp of 6-650 maybe more. No blower. Had the Berk JC rebuilt using Dominator split bowl, upgraded shaft, A stainless, droop, pd, aluminum ride plate and all that. I had the hull blueprinted and bottom coated with graphite paint. So here's my question: I am relatively new to these late jet drive modifications for higher hp jet boats. I guess is suprized me that the loader I received is made of steel. I guess I was expecting aluminum since the grate is as such. And I have looked at adds on this site which mention stainless. So: 1) is regular steel the correct material for a loader in my application? Is there a better material I should seek out? 2) Should I be concerned about rust if painted correctly? Should I have it powder coated? 3) since the bottom of the hull has been costed with graphite paint, is it a good or bad idea to apply the same to the loader? Or does any of this matter one bit?
