TO FRAME MY QUESTION: Just received a loader I purchased from a private party for $350.  It is made of steel and its primed apparently meant to be painted or powder coated.  I would estimate that it weighs about 12 lbs.   The application is a  '76 19' Eliminator Bubbledeck.  The engine is a BBC recently completed and built for both low end torque and rpm. No blower. Est hp of 6-650 maybe more.  No blower.  Had the Berk JC rebuilt using Dominator split bowl, upgraded shaft, A stainless, droop, pd, aluminum ride plate and all that.  I had the hull blueprinted and bottom coated with graphite paint.  So here's my question:  I am relatively new to these late jet drive modifications for higher hp jet boats.  I guess is suprized me that the loader I received is made of steel.  I guess I was expecting aluminum since the grate is as such.  And I have looked at adds on this site which mention stainless.  So: 1) is regular steel the correct material for a loader in my application?  Is there a better material I should seek out?  2) Should I be concerned about rust if painted correctly?  Should I have it powder coated?  3)  since the bottom of the hull has been costed with graphite paint, is it a good or bad idea to apply the same to the loader?  Or does any of this matter one bit?

Thanks in advance for any worthwhile feedback you experts can offer me.

I’ve run loaders just like that for years. If you got it around the Orange County area I’m guessing the place it came from has put out many similar units before, again only a guess.

As for paint, you may want to get something else on it to prevent rust, and maybe even a bright color so rust and or cracks would stand out upon visual inspection, maybe a bright white paint? Otherwise put it on with good high quality hardware and nylock nuts on thru bolts.

Check your loader and related hardware periodically depending on how often you use your not. You’re checking the loader for cracks and hardware for becoming loose.

Thank you.  Are all these loaders made of steel or stainless steel?  I expected lighter weight aluminum but maybe an aluminum loader flexes as an aluminum impeller or propeller does?   A non stainless steel contraption that is always in the water seems like a rust factory waiting to happen.  I am seeking advise before I paint it and install it.  I mean you know that paint or powder coating is gunna get scratched when I'm on the sandbar.  Now I'll have rust!  Right?

Indeed looks like an MPD loader.   MPD only makes 4130 chromoly loaders.  That is the correct ramp length for a V-bottom and Berkeley intake, especially if you don't have a shoe.

That’s loader is fine for your V-hull and it’s more than likely made out of ChromeMolly . I run that same loader on our v- hull
