Hi all first jet boat so I’m a noob to this, just noticed water flowing out of the steering joint on my jet under power is this normal ?

Welcome to SCJB and to jet boating.

The socket in the droop will wear from abrasive sediment in the water. Sediment gets trapped between the o-ring and the socket and abrades the socket where slight steering corrections are made.

Does the steering tighten up as it approaches lock (hard right or left)?

Hopefully it is simply just the o-ring. There is no way to repair a droop, replacement is the only option.

Thanks for your reply Flusher, no tightening of the steering at all, I had a friend drive it for me and I noticed water was spraying around most of the circumference of the steering joint as arrowhead in the pic. Wasn’t sure if it was supposed to, thought it may be a relief for excess water that can’t pump through the jet, thought it was odd though as I’ve never seen it on a jet ski outlet but different configuration I thought. So am I to understand that there is a large o ring inside there ? Which may be no good and needs replacing? It’s an ex drag boat and from what I can gather the jet may not have been touched for as long as six seasons.

Hey Joe , I’m experiencing the same thing. I have a JC bowl and an old style Place diverter, no o-ring. Can a groove be milled into the socket of the diverter for an o-ring? I wouldn’t think so but thought I’d ask.

I would talk to Place Diverter about that, they would have the tooling to do it quickly and easily. That is assuming that there is enough material to be machined. Normally, we just replace the worn parts because machine operations outside of our specialty are not economically viable. All that assumes that there is enough material to cut an o-ring groove in. I don't think that there is.

Usually, the steering socket wears. Unfortunately a non-split bowl would need replacement of the entire bowl.
