I noticed that there is a small amounf of oil leaking from the rear of my Berk jet. I recall that when I had it out and while I was painting it, some oil would drip out of the bowl. But now the jet is in the boat and completeley assembled. Is this normal?

Mine started that so I put a zerk on it and fill with grease.

ok, if you've got a groove in the shaft from the seal but the bushing surfaces look OK, make a shim about twice the thickness of a file folder out of something waterproof and put that underneath the seal...that'll put the seal on 'new spot on the shaft.  problem solved.

if your bushing surface of the shaft is worn, htp sells repair sleeves that after a bit of machine work, can salvage the shaft

you need a new rebuilder.  its not normal.  oil shouldn't leak.....kinda defeats the purpose

Well I'm not gonna have a heart attack over this...just yet. Today I'll hook up the garden hose and let the boat idle for a minute or two. After that I'll crank the nose of the boat all the way up. I'm leaving town tomorrow and won't be back until wednesday. If I see any signs of oil then, I'll go ahead and have a heart attack and send my rebuilder the bill. I'm not planing on adding any oil just yet. I would estimate that it's leaked 2-4 ozs. at the most since I've had it back. That amount may be an exaggeration. One of my employees seems to think like it's maybe 1-2 ozs. Whatever the case may be, I want this thing right. If I see more oil on wednesday I'll insist that my rebuilder fix the problem. If not, theres always something called small claims court.
