Painting Pump

what type of paint do you guys use to paint the pump?

I used some single stage enamel auto paint. I've heard of peeps using everything from a rattle can, to rustoleum and a paint brush.

I had mine powder coated, but I painted the diverter (came in white) with Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy rattle can. Now I wish I painted the whole pump with this stuff as it looks better than the powder coat.

We use good quality epoxy enamel (True Value hdwr) always looks good , inexpensive and dries quick and No chance of "heat distortion" or "precision masking issues" (powder coat

yes it is. it will hold up much better than regular spray paint. it has a nice texture to it, that does not rub off and can be wiped clean.

heres a Q:
i broke off one of the ss bolts inside the bowl. all of the other bolts and nice and tight and i am planning to go to the lake tomorrow for a test run. do you guys think it would be safe?

Assuming it is a bowl bolt, you may blow a bowl gasket, keep an eye on it and make sure the bilge pump works

Its one of the bolts that holds the droop to the bowl. Off to the hardware store for more ss nuts and bolts. I ran out yesterday, so I'd rather have more than none.

Couple of questions..

I assume it is best to remove the bowl and transom housing to paint?
Do you sand down the pump? If so, with what and to what extent is the best?

I wet sanded it to a dull finish and masked off the transom and motor. Everything stayed on. After a few trips, the paint is still holding up fine. I also drilled out the broken bolt already and it was a pain in the a$$.

you guys werent lying about the appliance paint. this stuff is nice.
after a hour with the solvent tank

after sanding and a couple coats

by the way you dont have to get too carried away with sanding, this stuff does a decent job of filling minor nicks or dings

comes in black almond and white. dont use primer and do light coats. i dont know if mine will ever dry. ill have to redo a few spots

That is a big negatory. Between remodeling two bathrooms at the same time and working 7 days a week, I don't have any time. Was just out there looking at it. I need to put it in Ming and tinker with it. It can't be a major deal, just some fine tuning with the floats and install the needle and seats. Hopefully. I hate being stranded on the water. We should be heading to Laughlin. next weekend. Some kind of float thing,Regatta thing,drinking thing. Pirate cove bar on Friday,float on saturday ending at Lazy Harrys . Staying at River Palms. Looking for a place to buy on Sunday.

I used the appliance epoxy on this pump.....transom adap, bowl and nozzle adap. the pd is original powder coat.

Took about a week to fully cure.......It's tough paint!

I went a little crazy on mine I used automotive paint light silver metalflake, xtreme clear with house of kolors candy green and this is what I ended up with. .......sore azz hands from sanding all the nooks and crannies, and a shiny easy to clean green pump
