Panther Jet

I just got my first jet boat! 77 tahiti. it has a panther jet. I was wondering if anyone out there knows about this jet and can guide me in the write direction to get it looked at and tweeked a bit!!!

welcome fellow tahitian panther owner. post up a few pix. =) ive done a few things to mine, including ripping it out a few times, replaced stator housing end, front bearing oil, rear bearing grease, etc... all in all as long as you keep them lubricated and the seals are in good shape and turns freely there isnt much that can go wrong with em. but dont expect to be blowing doors off with a panther. i turn 5-5200 rpms right now and ive gps'ed at 64mph in some mild chop.

Jet boat performance did my panther and ROCKED it. Boat never ran better. I was going thru motors like once a year. and it was because my pump was too loose and i was spinning the big block chevy too fast and spinning bearings.

I would suggest sending your pump to JBP and have them clearance and rebuild it for you. I think it only cost me around 700 bucks. and it was the best money i spent on the boat

Thanks for the info! I posted some pics Im so glad i found this web site. I still need to do some work on the interior n paint it sat for like 5 years but she runs like a fugitive!! i GPS'd mine at 57 mph. Where are some other places besides the colorado river to go. It's always a crap shoot with the wind and choppy water.

what type of gains would i expect out of an energizer kit? im currently 5200 rpms WOT @ 64mph. which according to some charts and such from lazyboaters where most of the panther discussion is held is right about where it should be in terms of efficiency and rpm. also any drawbacks of reusing the panther box as ive heard at about 70mph the hull design and intake of the panther setup is as fast as its gonna go. ive seen a few pix from you just removing the panther all together and glassing in a real pump intake.

Our First Test boat with 455 Olds and good operating Panther Jet was 5600 rpms 55 mph , after the Energizer same boat was 4600 and 65 mph (same engine with no changes)

Is it poss. to change the oil in the panther. Due you have to use the recomended 90 wt or can u use something else. does it only take 3oz.
