Though I do think a polished pump does look quite nice, I have heard many people say not to even bother with it unless you REALLY stay on top of it because it will lose its shine promptly.

Polishing a pump isnt very technical, just takes a lot of elbow grease. Though I have never done it, I would assume its no different then any other aluminum parts polishing.

i am working on the bowl of my pump, was already polished just looked like shit, alot of elbo grease and am still working at getting the finish i want, its a bitch--shoulda powdercoated with the rest of the parts

 It's realy not that bad. I polished all the parts on my bike last winter ( frame, wheels, swingarm, etc, etc,etc.) .  For painted parts I used aircraft stripper in a spray can from Kragens, for anodized parts use Ez off oven cleaner ( let it sit on there until it turns black than whipe it off ) than started sanding. What sandpaper to start with will depend on the condition of the part, but if you are going to try to polish by hand work your way all the way up to 2000 grit wet, and be picky any flaws will show ( you will see them more than other people becauce you know where thay are). I finished with 1500 wet and than used a buffing wheel from Lowes on a drill , they also sell the compounds and it all worked fine. Finish it off with some Mothers polish by hand and your done .    Try some small parts first !!!!
