Polishing berkeley jet
« on: August 13, 2017, 01:29:37 PM »
Always liked how berkeley jets look when they are polished out instead of the traditional white. My question is what the best way to strip the white paint off and go about polishing it out? Any tricks or tip? thanks in advance

It's not the white paint you need to worry about, it's the pale green zinc-chromate.

The best way by far is sodium bicarbonate blasting (yep, baking soda)....

DO NOT BREATH THE DUST................

Then the parts will need to be sanded smooth and polished. The zinc is an etching primer, so you will need to dig down pretty deep to get to virgin metal.

Maybe do search about polishing a jet. While it looks AWESOME, it seems to be a lot of upkeep.
Some guys have put on a clear powdercoat once polished.

And like GT said, that green primer is supposed to be some bad stuff.

I purchased my boat with the pump polished looks really good on the way to the river Buildup on the metal due to electrolysis sitting in the lake it has to be repolished after every trip we will need to put some sort of clear over the top to avoid this
