Re: Jetaway
they serve 2 purposes....

First...they allow you to disconnect the drive line from the pump so you can run it on the trailer without worrying about burning up your pump....

second, they have a ratchet system on them to allow the pump to continue to spin and allow water to pass through in the event of an unplanned shutdown. in a tunnel/cat like your daytona....i dont think you have much to worry about. but in a v bottom or gullwing style boat, you will see violent bow steering. I got a small taste of it when my rogers blew.

The pop off relieves the pressure inside the pump if the engine indavertantly dies while the boat is at high speeds to help allieviate bow steer. Pop off's can be automatic or manually controlled by many different ways, or both.

For a popoff you have to set your pump back far enough to where the hand hole cleanout is outside of the transom. That's basically what the popoff does...opens up the handhole cleanout to relieve pump pressure in the event of an engine shutdown at high speed.

With the Jet-A-Way you have two options...either set the pump back 5 inches or move the motor forward 5 inches.
