Pump Swap
« on: August 09, 2008, 08:46:49 PM »
What will I run into when I swap out a JC pump with a JG?  Are they a direct swap?

Same same...I just did mine last week, pretty simple, I added a Droop Snoot and had to mess with the cables and linkages (also a Place Diverter), but pretty straight forward. I did have one little complication but it was my own doing, everything is "double drilled", so had to "make" a new tool to get to all of the bowl bolts...all together I have a day into it.

Can't wait to put it in the water, but sold my headers and have not picked up my logs yet... :banghead:

Good luck!

I kind of figured it was going to be a direct swap but just wanted to ask and make sure.  This is a stock JG with a hydraulic Place Diverter on it.  I got a great deal on it so I had to go with it.   Maybe next year I'll put a droop and ride plate if I think I need it.  Nothing will be set back so I don't know it the ride plate is needed.  It's going into my '75 Miller and that pump will be going into a new project boat I am picking up this week.  The pump in the boat I'm picking up will go on eBay or Craigslist.  Might even get enough out of all the junk I have to pay for the second project.  That would be cool.

Been debateing selling my pump too, just want to run it before I do. My old pump is a stock "A" aluminum impellor "JC" with little time on it (Like 10 hours), but the "new" pump is a GTH stainless "A" impellor, smoothed suction piece, full width GTH hand hole cover, GTH stuffer, GTH inducer, droop, and have a four point loader installed, it will either haul ass or flounder like an otter, I should have installed a ride plate, but decided to hold off and see what it does first.

Got an unwritten rule around here, always have two running boats at all times, got the small block powered Southwind ready to do cam break in, and we have the "big boat" (23' Crusader), so I'm covered twice... :sly:

My boat (White Trash) is under construction right now anyways, the seats are at my buddies house having covers made, I'm still struggling with my transom adapter, and the motor needs to be reassembled after finding metal in the pan (ate a cam gear washer).

GT that's the way to go....  Have 2 and then you can always go have some fun.  I've got one that's running and still need the cosmetics and am starting another one that should be a small hot rod.  I think I'll get the Miller looking good this fall and winter, cover it and then go to work on the small James Bond looking jet boat.
