Ride plate ?

I need to get an idea how long I should make my ride plate. I looked in the old threads but couldnt find anything $:-\$ . In the pic the end of the tape measure is at the back of the shoe.

18" is a good starting point but you may end up ± depending on what the boat wants

Propless, like Josh said, the typical rideplate is about 18" long. From your pic, however, it looks like you may be measuring from a point further forward than the step on the back of a typical shoe. You should post a pic of what you have for a shoe. Important thing to remember, it's easier to start too long and trim it, than it is to start too short and make it longer.

Thanks guys, heres a shot of the shoe

. I just went out and measured again, and the other pic is correct, there is 20" from the front of the shoe notch (where the plate mounts) to the center of the steering pins. I dont want to hear this is wrong and I need to pull the intake !!!!

Dont know if this matters or not but I have an old style (looong) diverter.

Propless, the shoe looks just right. Perhaps the fact you were measuring against a "C" bowl ,not a split, is what made it look off.

There is a guy on Performance Boats that could use pictures of the reverse cable bracket for that old long diverter. All he currently has is that long nozzle and matching reverse bucket and is trying to figure out how to make it all work. One of his options is to modify the "current" reverse cable bracket to the early configuration.

Thats good news.

I guess I'll have Ironman cut me one at 19" and start there. btw , what would happen if its to long / short, just so I know when tuning time comes ?

I gave up on that quest now, and just said F'it and bought a brand spankin' new PD (and I had the ball too, I had everything but the 2 damn brackets).

What's the progress on this? Did you ever get it made up? How did it turn out?

I would cut it at a nice, even 20" and go from there. Don't forget to put stiffening bars on there, so the plate won't flex, when the boat is riding on it.

Progress is going slow but its getting there, plate and supports should be cut soon, the project thread is here http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?topic=3365.0 , it wanders a bit ( in typical So Cal fashion

Yeah, PB's been a little slow, being July 4th weekend, so I've been reading some of the crap over here. Since, my boat's not in the water and it's not dark yet!

I didn't read all of that thread, but I looked at all the pictures and read what went along with the pictures. Looks like you've been working your ass off on that thing. It's looking good. Now just ditch the Ford!

Curious about using a "C" bowl with a ride plate. How do you support the back of the plate off the bowl? There is no extension to the bowl where you can drill and tap for a cradle and no flange to allow you to use turn buckles... you're also stuck with the thrust height.

My bowl is also drilled to accept this cradle (2 set screws on either side of pin). Unfortunately, I don't know if this is factory for my bowl, or if some one just drilled them because I do not have that cradle or a ride plate.

Thanks for the pix I never knew such a piece existed. It still doesn't fix the biggest problem of thrust height which you can only fix with a droop snoot. But if your not racing, go for it. it's a lot better than the cost of a JG or JR bowl

Just a reminder here. Not every boat needs a droop to work right. It was recommended to me by Greg Shoemaker not to use a droop on this hull, and since the JC is said to flow better than the split bowls, I'm sticking with it for now. Although I may need to change to a split bowl later if it needs some wedge.

You could always have your JC bowl converted, and keep the flow advantage of the JC bowl, but have the adaptability of the JG bowl.

While sitting in the garage looking at the pile of spare parts, and being really mad about my alt mounting (don't ask

). I had an idea

. What do you guys think about this to adjust the ride plate

I was thinking about using longer bolts for the 2 outer bowl to suction housing bolts and adding a bracket there to mount these old cav plate adjusters.

It puts the adjusters at an angle (not sure about that), but they would be at opposite angles kinda like this \ / . here's another shot . What do you guys think, will it be strong enough
