Ride plate question
« on: October 06, 2016, 09:38:33 AM »
Hey guys. Im starting to work on my little brother's project. We're installing the jet and ride plate. JC intake with a JG bowl. The gentleman who sold us the boat included the ride plate , cradle, and shims. I see how this hardware all bolts on. What i dont see is how the cradle attaches to the bowl. There are 2 bolt holes drilled at an angle that seem like this is where it bolts to the bowl. I dont see any holes drilled into the bowl. Are these holes for mounting? Do I need to drill and tap holes into the bowl? How does the cradle attachvto the bowl? And what is a good starting point for an angle and shims? Thank you.

Yes. First make sure your intake is set up for a ride plate (Drilled and tapped for shoe and plate). Bolt the plate to the intake, dry fit the support under the bowl, mark the holes, drill and tap. Depending on the pump angle, the support might need to be shimmed before you mark the holes.

3° "up" from the keel line is a great starting point.

When you drill the holes for the cradle,  slow and steady wins the race. If you try to drill too quickly, you could punch through and catch a vein breaking the bit off in the hole.

You will want to choose a stainless fastener of the correct length,  I personally like Allen head bolts,  use red Loctite.

Sometimes it's necessary to "cant" the bracket to better fit the angle of the plate.

Good looking float.

Good luck.
