I have a Berkeley pump that I want to service.I have heard two things that the bowl can have greas or oil in the bowl which one is the better way to go and how much

Berkeley has always used 90wt gear lube.

Grease is for rolling element bearings (like the thrust bearing).

If the bowl shaft seal is in good condition (indicated by very little water mixed with the bowl oil), I recommend gear lube.

If the bowl seal is failed,  indicated by almost all water in the bowl oil area,  you could use grease. With that said, the seal should be replaced.

I think my boats last owner cheated and/or quick fixed mine. It has grease nipples on it now.

I'm a fan of oil bath. If it's set up that way continue to run it that way. One other thing, don't spend a bunch of money on wiz bang synthetic gear oil. Any old gear lube works just fine.
