I wanted to share with you something i found while surfing mcmastercarr's site. I recently had to pull my transom adapter off and the last time i put it on i was in a hurry. To say i was sloppy with the silicone would be an understatement. I was lookign for a new tube of silicone for when it goes back together this time and found some silicone remover. I've used gasoline in the past and it works. But who likes to smell like gas?
Its called Liftoff you can buy it at home depot. It was pretty cheap. Its a Gel like consistency, and worked very well for me. The instructions say to remove as much silicone as possible first, then spray it on and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. I did not do that
I sprayed it on (the sprayer sucks to say the least) and spread it around with my hands. It softened and ate up the thinner parts of silicone like brake cleaner to styrofoam. And i barely used any. Once the transom adapter was off, i sprayed some more on the transom and again spread it around with my hands. Then took a razor blade and the silicone that was there for the most part just wiped off. A little bit of pressure.
I then sprayed some on the towel, and used it to wipe the rest off. I cant believe how well it works.
