Thoughts needed .. jacuzzi/panther

Alright guys, need a little input here.
Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have a Berk.
Between Jacuzzi and Panther, what would be the prefference?

Dont beat me down too bad here ...

Personally I'd take a Jacuzzi WJ over a Panther.  Now if it's a Jacuzzi YJ I'd have to start looking for another boat.

What is the story?  Are you comparing boats to purchase?  A little more information will get you better answers.

I wouldn't dismiss a boat with a YJ unless I was planning on making a fairly serious performance boat.  The YJ's are tuff pumps and will get a decent hull into the low 70's mph.  A good day cruiser pump, but I would agree it would not be my 1st, 2nd or even 3rd choice if I were picking just the pump.

I'd have to believe it is a YJ, although I'm not 100% positive.
It's in an 18' sleek im contemplating making an offer on. Not looking to build something insanely fast, but faster than my 21' Bahner.
If I do buy this boat, I'll have to either come up with or build an engine for it, but for the price, I don't think I can beat it.

run from the panther.

Don't run from a panther unless you have cash to convert it to an American turbine... And yes there is a conversion

I had a panther in my first boat.  I do have to say not much upgrades for a panther but never had any issues ever with it.

As for Jacuzzi, which would be more desireable. WJ or YJ?
Again, not looking to run huge HP.

I think you may have misspoke. I think you meant "if" you have the cash, not "unless"..

Either way, you can almost convert it from one pump to another for less dough than the Energizer, you just have to take the glass work into consideration.

The Panther is pretty hit/miss, whereas the Jacuzzi pumps are pretty consistent. The WJ being higher on the heap.

One of my boats has a panther and it runs great. It was freshly rebuilt by panther before I purchased it.

Not many upgrades, but I have no complaints about it. Simple to work on and a decent punch out of the hole. It limits top speed and runs a higher RPM compared to a similar berk though.

Thanks for all the replies. Now for the next punch ...

Anyone have a 460 or 454 they'd be willing to part with, or can point me in the right direction?
