I have a jet boat with a Berkeley 12JC.  I have had the boat for 5 years with no problem.  When I got the boat the pump had just been rebuilt.  Now I need to sell it for financial reasons.  In the middle of a sale my thrust bearing started making a loud grinding noise.  Needless to say I didn't sell it.  I greased the heck out of it and it helped for about 5 mins.  So now I am looking at replacing the thrust bearing.  I am pretty handy and I am tackling this project myself.  I've seen the master rebuild kits on Ebay for $400.  All I really want to do is spend half of that and just replace the bearing and maybe a few other key parts (including the impeller nut which I had to grind off) and some seals and gaskets.  So what I am looking for is bare necessity replacement parts.  Any recommendations would be great.  Also, can I get the bearing from a regular bearing supply company?

I am no pump expert, but I am going to say that your problems might be a bit more then just a thrust bearing.

A thrust bearing does just what its name says....it absorbs all the thrust from the impeller...if this bearing fails, there is nothing absorbing the thrust and your impeller just starts chewing away at your wear ring and into the pump housing.
