What is this part called??
« on: January 19, 2013, 04:22:20 PM »
Sorry I'm a little slow when it comes to technical talk what stuff is actually, added with the fact that I can't remember anything. Does anyone know what this is actually called?

Mine was stiff when working it back and forth on the trailer.
Once I got it on the water and under power, it was amazing!

Yes it is the forward/ reverse cable. But I'm looking for the outside part? The siding mechanism. Or is it all part of the cable?

I broke the book on the lever side.

Yes it is part of the cable itself, you will need to replace the cable.

Does it still work?  Because from the pic it looks like just the protective sleeve came out.  Judging from the angle it makes attaching to the shifter arm even if you put a new cable in it will do the same thing.  I think you need to lower the mounting point so the cable is more inline with the shifter arm.  As long as the cable itself isn't broken (or seriously bent at that end) you should be able to use it for quite a while.

No the cable isn't bent or damaged, and it still works but the rubber boot is broken. I have some tape and stuff holding it together right now. And yeah that's kind of what I was thinking too. I was planning on replacing that piece and making a need mounting bracket for it.

From the looks of the picture the arm on the fwd/rev lever just needs to be rotated 180. If its the style I think it is its a square hole so it should only take 15 mins at most from grabbing tools to putting em away. And from what I gather that sleeve serves as a guide.

If he rotates the arm 180 degrees then the shifter will be work opposite however it's hooked up now.

Yeah, I tried that I didn't like it at all. It just felt un-natural.

Yes it serves as a guide, but the guide is held on by the rubber boot that has ripped off. It won't still in place now.
