What reverse bucket do I have?
« on: September 10, 2017, 10:42:15 AM »
My pump says JB-A, but the bowl looks like a G or similar, the reverse bucket doesn't look like anything I can find online.  I'm trying to get the correct reverse linkage and can't find info/parts for it.

Thanks

I would say it's the stock JB pump. JB is an old style Berkeley, but very similar to the JG.

The tiller arm (what the steering and reverse cables are hooked to) is probably what makes it look so different.

When you say reverse linkage, are talking about just the cable or something more?
The cable "should" have the model stamped onto it somewhere.
Probably 43bc http://www.placediverter.com/home/product/control-cables/

You'll need to know the length of the cable.

The cable is good, moves freely, the tiller arm is ok from what I can tell.  My problem is the linkage between the threaded end of the cable and the bucket.  Currently there is an adaptor from the cable to 5/16" coarse thread that is bent at about a 45* angle, then a 5/16" coupler and a bolt tying the bucket to the coupler.  I'll try to get a better picture this evening.  It's home depot hardware cobbled between the bucket and the cable, I figure there's a swivel joint or heim setup of some sort that will function a little better than bent bolts and a FF coupler.

That looks like a Place Diverter style reverse bucket. (cable on the right {statboard} side.

A JB style reverse bucket has the reverse lever? on the other side, (left or port) Or at least that's what I've seen.

That's kinda what I thought too, but the vertical bolt hole instead of horizontal has me perplexed.

Missed that.

I'll have to check an old jet-o-vator I have somewhere.

I found another bucket like mine on the video below at the 3:20 mark, but still no clue what it is.

Looks like a home modification to me. A better mod would be to use a calgo style steering arm. That way the cable would be right on top of the bucket instead of to the side.

I still have this, pm me if you're interested.

It looks like a stock JB or JC reverse bucket, but it's using incorrect hardware. Berkeley should have the parts available. I'll do more research to see if I can track the parts down.

Thanks for the offer, but I don't want to modify anything just yet, I'm just trying to track down the appropriate linkage for the bucket.  Eventually I'll put a place diverter on it, but that's not in the cards right now.

Any help is greatly appreciated.  I've checked parts diagrams and whatnot, but I can't find anything JB specific, everything starts at JC and goes up.

I could cobble something together from some HVAC controls and a Home Depot hardware, but if I could get the real deal I'd prefer it.

Got the part yesterday, looks great for being two and half decades old.  Thanks a ton Jim!
